Perhaps a few of the luxury properties are sold to celebrities and business elites. Yet, increasingly, trends show the Big Island is drawing new residents, and not just vacation home buyers.
The Big Island is now home to 200,000 full-time
residents. Of the 60 real estate transactions closed from January 2011 to 2014, most occurred in the Kukio, Maniniowali and Kaupulehu areas.
Nearly half of buyers (47%) were from California, 22 percent from the Western U.S., 15% from the East, and 6% from the Central U.S. 10% were international buyers.
